Black Cherry #21012

The wood for this urn came from a black cherry tree that blew down at the edge of a clearcut on the hill above our house. I brought the wood down the hill on my mountain bike, it was a fun project and I enjoyed it until I broke my bike. Black cherry is a beautiful wood to work with, it has a beautiful deep reddish brown heartwood and a lighter brown sapwood. This piece gains additional character from its black pitch pockets and mineral stain. The Black walnut lid was turned on the lathe and then hand carved, it is threaded into the urn with a finely machined threaded brass insert. The urn and lid have a hand rubbed lacquer finish.

7” diameter — 8 ¾” tall — 158 cu. inch volume.
